Love from: Karen Frank
I first met Lauren in 1973...he and I had each found our way to London, he enrolling at London School of Economics and me looking for a post-college adventure. We met through the wonderful Ann and Wayne Horvitz, who were surrogate parents to each of us, having gotten to that position in different ways...We shared some London adventures and then more when we both came back to the US, including simultaneous stints in DC (Ann and Wayne for us there too). We rekindled the friendship when Lauren and Karen moved to San Francisco, and I had the great fun of working with Lauren and his partner Will on their Two Degrees venture. I was and remain massively impressed with Lauren’s curiousity and gumption – there is NOBODY too famous or accomplished for Lauren not to feel comfortable calling right up and telling that he’d like to get to know them.
How good a friend is Lauren? He is SO GOOD a friend that, if you just ask him, he will cart a 50-pound replica of the Rosetta Stone from London to Washington, D.C., so you can give it to your father for a birthday present. Who else would do that?? Happy Birthday, Lauren!
Best, Karen Frank
