Love from: Nancy & Phil

Dear Lauren,

My family has gotten to know you in a number of different ways. Phil and I met you through Karen when Tom and Ed were in nursery school, Tom and Sarah got to know you through Ed, and Christopher via Peter. We have so many wonderful connections and shared stories, that they’re impossible to unpack.

When we think of you we think of your willingness to listen and help solve the issues of others. We’ve seen you do this time after time. You are a creative, insightful problem solver and you’re selfless with your time. Your ability to get to the heart of things is a skill not often seen, and it is highly valued by all of us who know you.

The most impressive, loving thing that I, Nancy have witnessed in you, is your care of Karen after she was diagnosed with cancer and throughout her treatment. I’ve never seen anything like it. Bringing her coffee in bed, making her a nutritional breakfast every morning, overseeing her care and taking her to Nashville for immunotherapy, keeping track of and carefully timing her medications, taking her for treatments and appointments, grocery shopping, keeping her spirits up, never giving up, and most importantly being a loving, kind husband. I’m so impressed. Caretaking is not easy and I want you to know how much I appreciate your care of my dear friend.

Phil and I look forward to spending time with you and Karen when the pandemic is over.

       Happy Birthday!

                          Nancy and Phil

*These photos are from 2007 when Lauren became an accidental “wine thief.” I made wanted posters and put them on all the trees lining your driveway the next morning. Lauren never noticed. Karen had to point them out.
