Love from: Jonathan Cohen
Dear Lauren,
Congratulations on joining the ‘Old Geezer’ society: I imagine, though, that with your boundless energy, insatiable curiosity and your delight in people, you will redefine the terms of membership!
We’ve shared so many – such disparate – times and experiences for very many years, in so many locations – from Concord, to Lincoln, the Vineyard, San Francisco and Lucca. There’ve been vacations, birthdays & family celebrations across towns and countries. We’ve explored - with some successes - a slew of investments in real estate deals; energy conservation; strange inventions from strange MIT inventors; electrical chargers and nutrition bars. We’ve supported NGO’s and sat on boards of charitable organizations and even created a group who met, with the modes ambition of “Saving the World”…all while bemoaning the state of the world, and even celebrated the occasional political victory and campaign, even as you took on the town & school politics of Concord. We’ve lived through houses bought & sold, relocations, and explored lives in spaces expansive or restricted. We’ve watched our children transform themselves from yes, children, to unique adults but who all still bear the markers of their parents’ genes. Above all though - from the days of the ‘Rolodex’ to the age of electronics - watched your passion for connecting people-to ideas-to people, constantly engaged as one of the world’s pre-eminent ‘networkers’… long before the existence of the term. (Oh, and I think you usually beat me at squash except when - trying to win the last point, of the last game, of the last set - I would have won except for snapping my achilles tendon).
Lauren, it has been a delight to know you; to have been part of some of your multifaceted careers and to have the chance to share your enthusiasms and passions. All in all its been a triumphant 70 yearss
Congratulations and Happy Birthday
Jonathan
